No idea what species we found, but we were very intrigued. It had no particular odor and had a mild taste.

The purple stipe reminded me of Tapinella, which used to be part of Paxillus

Note the peeled gills that come of in a sheet like the pores of a bolete can be peeled. The ectomycorrhizal genus Paxillus is part of the order Boletales.
